Hello Monday – Easter Weekend

It’s Monday and this past weekend was a good one!

We normally don’t see family anytime during Easter, so it was pretty special to have a day that we could hug and spend time with those we love.

On Friday, the kids didn’t have school due to Good Friday, but we did have our annual Easter pictures at 9:30 a.m. – about thirty minutes north of where we live.  Luckily, this was also on the way to both my and Jon’s parents’ houses.  Also, it happened to work out that the kids would be donning their Easter outfits, which made it special for the grandparents to see them all decked out.

1/3 normal smile.  LOL!

Chandler Bing vibes all the way. 😉

I can’t wait to see their pictures this coming Friday – Jane loved the bunny!

We stopped by my Mom and Dad’s house first.  With my Dad being sick, we’ve made more of an attempt to make the two hour drive to visit as often as we can.  I’ve really woken up to what can be taken away.  I miss my Dad, I miss talking to him, even though he’s here, I still miss him.

My sister and her kids met up with us, so that was nice for the kids to play with their cousins.  Kimmy, my sister, also brought the kids some Harry Potter gifts from their most recent trip to Universal Studios!

Henry looked so cute!

Eliza received a Gryffindor hat, but I think she wanted to make sure her bow stayed in tact.

My Dad.

Oh how I love him and oh how mad it makes me to see him like this, but I keep reminding myself that he’s here and to make the best of it.  I have plenty of regret and sadness, but in the meantime, we try to show up and enjoy his company.

My mom.

She usually never takes pictures, so this was a big deal that she was willing to pose with the girls.

She gave Eliza some new earrings.

I noticed this quote written up on a mirror in the guest bathroom…

“Every day you don’t quit, you win.”

It’s empowering, but it also saddens me.

My mom is my Dad’s primary caregiver.  He was in a faculty at one point, but honestly, she brought him home and he came alive… in lots of ways I think she saved him from drifting away in more ways than one.

It’s not fair.  None of it is fair.

We headed over to Jon’s parents’ house (which is seven miles away – Jon and I went to the same high school).

Grandpa George always has balloons on hand and this time, he did not disappoint.

Also, Jane must take her “Mommy Robe” with her everywhere she goes.  We even took it to Disney.  LOL!

My FIL made homemade Cannolis and my MIL made cookies…along with a HUGE Easter dinner!

After dinner the kids went out on the tree swings.  It was soooo cold, so I only stayed out for a minute, maybe only twenty seconds.  Brrrrr!

The next morning we woke up, quickly packed up and drove two hours back home to make it to Henry’s first soccer game of the season.  Once again, it was cold, but we made the most of it!

Henry’s first “battle wounds.”  He was quite proud.

After nap time, I remembered, that we still hadn’t dyed Easter eggs.  I had purchased everything for it, thank goodness, but it was an entire Easter tradition that we almost missed.  Phew!

We ended up ordering pizza and we watched some Easter cartoons.
The kids were tired from the day and our travels.
Then…..The Easter Bunny came…

I totally dropped the ball on cute Easter pajamas AND there’s a pile of toys in the background yet to be put away.  Argh!  BUT – this year sure did feel better than the last couple of years and we were full of happiness after a successful weekend of visiting with family, so letting go a little with matching pajamas was okay by me this year.
This little face…
Her profile…
Henry was his normal, kind and happy self…
Eliza was so excited to dig in.  I still don’t know what happened to that piece of hair that seemed to be cut at the top of her head.  Oh sweet, girl.  She’s an adventure.

I made overnight French Toast.  You guys – it’s the best…
While the French Toast finished baking we headed outside for an egg hunt…

How are they getting so big?
Henry helped Jane find eggs…

Eliza did not…  😉 LOL!

Eliza, of course, had THE most eggs.  This didn’t surprise us in the least.
Breakfast time.  Don’t mind the chocolate on Jane’s face.
Seriously, I need to share this recipe.
There you have it!
Our lovely Easter weekend.
Thanks for stopping by!
Marie 🙂

  1. What a full weekend! I hate so much everything that's going on with your dad, but I'm so glad you were able to spend time with him. Bless your momma for taking such good care of him. I can't even imagine how tough it must be for her and for all of you. Happy Easter to y'all!

  2. Thanks so much. My mom. Ugh. It's just not fair. It's heart-breaking. Little things will make me so sad and will make me cry out of nowhere. My dad is still here, but – wow – it's just so different. I miss him. I miss my mom, too. I appreciate your comment so much. Hugs!
